Scrap Yarn Crochet Wine Cozy

Meet your next favorite scrap yarn project: Introducing the Scrap Yarn Crochet Wine Cozy! Fast, fun and uses up those bits of scrap yarn in your stash.. and beautiful! What’s not to love!
The scrap yarn wine cozy has all the things I adore about a fast, fun project. First..it uses up scrap yarn! Sigh. If you are stuck in the house with a lot of scrap yarn and not quite sure what beautiful thing to make with it, this is probably your next favorite project.
Like my other wine cozies, the scrap yarn wine cozy also uses 2 strands of yarn for the wine cozy portion. What makes this special is that you pick TWO colors from your stash, hold them together, and get to crocheting. Of course you can use any two colors. I decided to pick two colors close to each other on the color wheel: a purple and a pink. The pink is leftover yarn from my Princess Lovey pattern. The purple is the same yarn I used in this pattern.
You can use any two yarns in your stash. Use two colors that are close in color and intensity like I did, or pick two completely different colors. Team colors would be really fun. Just hold two colors together, squint your eyes and imagine! If you don’t like the two together, you can rip it out and start over. That’s part of the fun!
To finish things up, I did two fun things. First, I picked one color and made a Loopy Flower. Then, I realized I wanted a cute little matching button for the center of the flower…but hey.. I was trying to stay home, right?! So I did what any creative resourceful girl would do: I made my own. Seriously. The photos don’t even show how cute this little crochet button is in real life. And I’m thinking.. hey.. any time I need a decorative button (like on the Snowman Wine Cozy, for instance), I could TOTALLY make my own. Game Changer.

Scrap Yarn Crochet Wine Cozy
Here is what you will need:
Materials:
- US J10/6mm crochet hook (these are my absolute favorite hooks I recommend to everyone!)
- US G6/4mm crochet hook
- Two colors of worsted weight yarn: 1.5 oz Color A (Pink) and 1.25 oz Color B (Purple)
- Tapestry needle and scissors

I really like to use the invisible seamless join when finishing pieces that get sewn together.
Size:
Fits a standard wine bottle
Wine Cozy:
Wine cozy is worked using 2 strands of yarn. In this wine cozy, use one strand of color A and one strand of color B
R1: Using the larger (size J) hook and 2 strands of yarn, make a magic ring, chain 3 (counts as 1st dc) 11 dc in ring (12 dc total). Sl St to 1st st.
R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), 1 dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each of the remaining stitches. Sl st to 1st st. (24 st)
Now work in even dc (which means no increasing or decreasing in this section):
R3-17: Ch 3 for 1st stitch, dc in remaining stitches (24 st) Sl st to 1st st.
R18: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and next 2 st, ch 14, skip 7 st, sc in next 5 st, ch 14, skip 7 st, sc in last 2 st. Sl st to 1st st.
R19: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and next 2 st, sc 16 in ch-14 loop from the previous row, sc in next 5 st, sc 16 in ch-14 loop, sc in next 2 st. Sl st to joining. (42 st)
R20: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and around row. (42 st). Fasten off and weave in ends.
Loopy Flower:
The flower is worked with one strand of yarn in color A (pink) and a smaller hook. Follow the instructions for the Loopy Flower pattern here. When done, fasten off, leaving a long strand for sewing.
Crochet Decorative Button:
R1: Using the smaller (size G) hook and color B (purple), make a magic ring, chain 1. Single crochet 6 st in magic ring and pull magic ring tight. Then use an invisible seamless join to join the last single crochet to the first single crochet in the row. Weave in the end and then attach the crochet button to the Loopy Flower.
Sew loopy flower on to wine cozy and you’re done! What a beauty!
