Oh my goodness, I’m in love.  This might be my favorite Christmas creation yet!  This crochet snowman wine cozy is so cute, yet modern and classy.  It is also very easy and fast to make.  With this bit of adorableness who even cares what kind of wine it holds!

Crochet Snowman Wine Cozy If I can bear to part with it (which I can’t) it will be the perfect gift for my boss (don’t tell).  On second thought, I think I will make another one because seeing this guy on display just makes me incredibly happy and I can’t give him up.

This is a one evening (or less) project, my friends.  I’m not kidding.  With this kind of easy you can whip up one for almost everyone you know and just change out the colors a bit.  Christmas.  Done.  Then you can get back to Pinterest and Instagram (and follow me once you’re there, ok?) or whatever other bit of goodness you enjoy.

Cozy

Wine cozy is worked using 2 strands of yarn.  So either pull a strand from the outside and inside of the yarn skein or wind a small ball to use as your 2nd strand.

R1:  Using 2 strands of White color yarn, make a magic ring, chain 3 (counts as 1st dc) 11 dc in ring (12 dc total). Sl St to 1st st.

R2:  Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), 1dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each of the remaining stitches. Sl st to 1st st. (24 st)

Now work in even dc:

R3-12: Ch 3 for 1st stitch, dc in remaining stitches (24 st)  Sl st to 1st st.  Change to Scarlet color in joining slip stitch of last round.

R13: With Scarlet and using a double strand of yarn, Ch 3 for 1st stitch, dc in remaining stitches (24 st)  Sl st to 1st st.

R14: Continuing with Scarlet, Ch 3 for 1st stitch, then, working in the back loop, this round only, dc in remaining stitches (24 st)  Sl st to 1st st.

R15-17: Continuing with Scarlet, working in both loops, ch 3 for 1st stitch, dc in remaining stitches (24 st)  Sl st to 1st st.

R18:  Ch1, sc in same st as joining and next 2 st, ch 14, skip 7 st, sc in next 5 st, ch 14, skip 7 st, sc in last 2 st.  Sl st to 1st st.

R19:  ch 1, sc in same st as joining and next 2 st, sc 16 in ch-14 loop from the previous row, sc in next 5 st, sc 16 in ch-14 loop, sc in next 2 st. Sl st to joining. (42 st)

R20:  ch 1, sc in same st as joining and around row. (42 st)

Hat Brim:

Using 2 strands of yarn, and holding wine cozy upside down (with the handle loops down), attach Scarlet yarn to the free loop of any stitch in round 14.  Chain 4 (counts as 1st st), triple crochet in each stitch around.  Join with sl st to 1st stitch and fasten off.  Weave in ends.

The tie, scarf and nose and nose are worked with 1 strand of yarn as follows:

Tie:

With White, chain 85, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across.  Fasten off and weave in ends.  Weave tie over and under 2 dc around row 16 and tie into a bow.

Scarf:

With Red, chain 85, dc in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across.  Fasten off, weave in ends.

Nose:

With orange yarn, chain 5, sl st in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch.  Fasten off.  Use starting and ending strands of yarn to sew to face over row 10 in between button eyes.  (I sewed the button eyes on first and then attached the nose afterward.)

Finishing:

Sew on buttons for eyes and snowman front.  The black button eyes go on round 11.  The red buttons are evenly spaced starting on rows 4 and ending on 7.  Put a bottle of wine in the cozy, tie up the top and wrap his cute little scarf around his neck and you are good to go!

  1. The pattern reads after round 2,”now work in even DC”. Should that read “every” DC for rows 3-12? The number of stiches do not change from rows 2 to 3+.
I love the pattern, just want to get it right as it’s for a gift.

    1. Row 2 is the last row for increasing. So that is what I meant by work even, and yes, it is in double crochet. I just put that in there as a sort of side note so you would know that the increase part is done and you are working up the height of the cozy. I hope that helps!

    1. Yes,the entire cozy portion is worked in a double strand of yarn. I added a few words into row 13 to help make that clear for other readers.

  2. I’m confused with the hat brim portion. It says to triple in free loop of row 14. Row 14 is the back loop only row. The free loop is on the inside of cozy. Not sure what I’m doing wrong….

    1. You are working the cozy with the right side out at all times. So when you work in the back loop of row 14, the front loop on the front of the work is left free. You work INTO this loop when you come back later to work the brim. Hope that helps!

    2. I also am confused about the brim, and I struggled with understanding round 19. So I winged it. I didn’t know what you meant by, single crochet 16 in ch-14 loop? But love the project!

      1. In the previous round, you chained 14 which made a large loop. In the next round, you work AROUND that loop you made. I hope that helps!

  3. Awesome patterns. And so easy to read and follow. I’m making all your wine copies for work mates… they love their wine and they will love these too im sure. Thank you for the pattern.

  4. I don’t understand this pattern. It says to switch to scarlet and continue with scarlet for many rows. But in the pic I see the scarf red and then more white before the hat But no where it says to change to white. Please help

    1. The scarf is made separately and tied on after the wine cozy is done. So most of the wine cozy is in white until the top. Hope that helps!

  5. Hello

I’m a little confused how do you do the scarf that ties and hangs down.
When do you change from scarlet to white for the face?

    1. The pattern is written for 2 strands of yarn and the hook size indicated so that it will fit a standard wine bottle. You could experiment with different yarn and hook size, but it likely will turn out a different size.
