Meet Laurel, your new favorite crochet doll pattern!

Crochet doll with brown hair and pink dress and shoes

This adorable crochet doll pattern is a delight for your hook. Complete instructions with photos make this project a fun make!

This doll was a long time in the making. I created several versions in my design process to get a doll with the perfect proportions, a cute head shape, fun hair and outfit.

She’s constructed with a crocheted neck support system to minimize the neck flop that sometimes happens with crochet dolls. And she has an easy leg joining method that I think is just perfection! In fact, I added a section to my Joining Amigurumi Limbs post to include this leg join variation.

You can check out my Amigurumi Ebook to perfect even more Amigurumi Techniques:

This darling doll pattern isn’t a quick project, but it is well worth the crochet effort in a few evenings. It is so fun watching a crochet doll come together! Her hair is a bit similar to my Rachel doll. In fact the two would make a cute Mommy and Me doll set!

I’m so excited.. so let’s dive in!

Crochet Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st = stitch(es)
  • sc2tog = single crochet 2 together (recommend invisible decrease; see below)
  • sc3tog = single crochet 3 together (see special stitches below)

Special Stitches

Invisible Decrease: Insert the hook into the front loop only of the next stitch

Then place the hook into the front loop of the next stitch.  Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops on the hook.  There are now 2 stitches on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook.  Single Crochet Invisible Decrease made.   For the best finish, use the invisible decrease method every time a decrease is indicated in this pattern.

Sc 3 Tog:  *Insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop. Repeat from * 2 more times (4 loops on hook).  Yarn over and pull through all loops.  Work this stitch carefully and tightly to minimize any gaps in the crochet.

Note:  Use a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of each round as you work, moving the stitch marker as you work each round.

Note on Body and Limb Construction

The legs are worked separately and then joined together in the first row of the body.  You can check out the variation listed on my Amigurumi Limb Joining Post for a photo tutorial (or if you purchase the ad-free PDF, the photo tutorial is included with the pattern).

The body is worked to the neck.  At the neckline, we work into the back look (leaving the front loops free) and continue to form a small tube.  This tube is stuffed to reinforce the neck.

This part is fastened off, then a new strand of yarn is joined in the free loops at the neck and the head is worked upward around the reinforcement stuffed tube.  You’ll continue to crochet the head, stuffing as you go, pausing to insert the safety eyes.  The head is finished at the top and fastened off.

Then the arms are worked and sewn in place and the nose embroidered. The hair is crocheted and sewn on.  Please follow the instructions carefully for stuffing and fastening off notes.

Finished Crochet Doll Size

Attach Legs and Prepare for Body

You’ve just finished the 2nd leg and the yarn is still attached.  Pick up the first leg and position the legs so that both feet facing forward. Then use a stitch marker to mark where the two legs meet in the middle. This stitch marker holds the center stitch from each leg to each other.

Sc in the next stitch of the leg just worked.  Continue to single crochet in each stitch until you reach the marker holding the 2 legs together.  Work a single crochet in the next stitch (which is the stitch holding the legs together).  Chain 2 between the legs.  THEN work a single crochet in the matching stitch on the OTHER leg.

Now remove all other markers and place a marker in the last stitch worked.  This now marks the end of each row.

Continue to body, continuing to work in continuous rounds.

Body

When you come to the chain between the legs, sc into each chain, then work a single crochet in the stitches on the other leg until you come to the opposite side of the chain.  Sc into the opposite side of each chain, then sc in the stitch you marked as the end of the row.  Count your stitches for this row.  There should be 22 stitches in the row.  If you have more or less than this, take a look at the stitches worked at the joining points and see if you’ve missed or worked an extra stitch here.
