Do you love crochet granny squares but want to kick it up a notch? If so, you’re going to completely love these gorgeous unusual granny square crochet patterns!

A collage of five photos, including a sunflower granny square, a gummy bear granny square, a swirling granny square, two bee granny squares, and a moon granny square with a sun granny square.

While these lovely blocks sometimes come in a variety of shapes, I decided to focus on the traditional square shape so that they fit into more projects.

These unusual granny squares can easily be made into all sorts of projects, such as a granny square blanket, beautiful tote bags or even garments that are tailor-made to you.

Most of these patterns use a variety of basic crochet stitches, so make sure that you know how to work a single crochet stitch, double crochet stitch, and slip stitch (sl st). Since these great patterns won’t take a long time to complete, your cute unusual granny square is just a few steps away!
