Be still my cold wintery heart because I have a brand new love.. this gorgeous crochet heart blanket! Friends, meet the Heart and Soul Baby Afghan!
There’s something about crochet hearts that speak to the soul!
So many of you love my darling amigurumi crochet heart pattern, my valentine crochet bottle cover and the ever so popular crochet heart appliqué!
Today I am really excited to introduce you to Gabriella, my niece and crocheter extraordinaire. She is the fabulous designer behind this sweet Heart and Soul Baby Afghan.
Originally we debuted Gabi’s very first design as a guest designer right here on Crochet 365 Knit Too, but now Gabi has her own crochet design business (YAY Gabi!). So we decided to keep that fabulous crochet heart square here and then let you read the rest of the afghan story on Crochet with Gabriella Rose!
I’ve kept the material list for the entire afghan here since many of you would love to make the afghan. However, if you are only wanting to make a square or two, this is a perfect stash buster project!
Heart and Soul Baby Afghan
Here is what you will need for the afghan:
- US H8/5mm crochet hook (these are my absolute favorite hooks I recommend to everyone!)
- Worsted weight yarn:
- Tapestry needle and scissors
Resources and tutorials you may find helpful in following this pattern: Crochet Abbreviations, US to UK Crochet Conversion Chart. Find links to stitches on the “Tutorial” menu: Getting Started will show basic stitches used in many patterns and Crochet Stitch Dictionary shows our growing collection of crochet stitch tutorials.
Size:
Finished blanket is approximately 36” x 36″. (One square is 5″ x 5″)
Bobble Stitch:
Working into the same stitch, yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. 2 loops are left on the hook (and one incomplete double crochet is made). Repeat these steps 4 more times. There are now 6 loops on the hook (5 incomplete double crochets). Yarn over and pull through all strands on the hook. Bobble stitch made.

OK, stop it, ya’ll. I can’t keep up! This is just the most adorable pattern ever and it has to be next on my list of projects (I’m in the middle of crocheting pocket shawls for daughters and granddaughters). How cute would it be to use heart squares as pockets!!! Oh my, I already planned to use Cheryl’s sunburst granny squares for pockets. You must have heard my husband groan all the way up in Michigan when I showed him the picture. Well thanks, gals, for sharing. You’re the best.
Have a blessed day.

Hi, I’d like to make this big enough for a twin size bed so would you know how many hearts that is? and is it possible to use a different joining stitch? Single crochet maybe?
The current pattern is about 36″ x 36″ and a standard twin blanket is 66″ x 90″. I would estimate that instead of 25 squares (5 x 5), you would want to make 108 squares (9 x 12). In terms of a joining stitch, the world is your oyster! Hope this helps! I’m excited to see the finished result!
Oh Cheryl, its wonderful, so lovely, so cute your new baby blanket.
Love the look of this blanket! Def adding it to my to do list.
Wow, that is so striking. Great job, and this will be fun to make.
Thank you for the heart pattern ,hope to make it soon. I sometimes donate to abused children center. Love to receive your news letter.

I believe I found the perfect t blanket for my Doctor. She loves greens with a dash of purple. So this will be a way to Thank her for always being there for me. Beautiful pattern.
That sounds lovely!
Yikes. It took me a long time to get this one (just one of the squares) because I’m just beginning and apparently cannot count to 21. :p But I finally got one!
Haha I struggled with that a couple times too!
I love ombre yarn. I’ve used it to make flowers for my wreaths. Our anniversary is Saturday. #50! This will make a nice banner. Unfortunately my husband is in the hospital having had a cutting edge heart pump installed. This will brighten up his room if he is not discharged by tSaturday. NIce job Gabi. Cheryl I love your dog stories. Mine likes to chase the squirrels away from the bird feeders. They go up a tree and she runs up the hill and into the woods to greet them when they get home.
I have been looking for this pattern! Thank you!
Thank you Cheryl and your niece, Gabi. This pattern is awesome. I actually purchased the add free PDF and I’m so glad I did. I have made two of these, one I added a few rows. I’m just started on another but will be adding letter squares to spell a name. I have also used the border, which I adore, to an Afghan I just finished!!
I’m so glad to hear it!
This blanket is just beautiful!! it’s going on my to do list. Cheryl, thank you for your email newsletters. i look forward to them and love how you share a part of your life in each one!
