During my time of single-hood, in between the unfortunate demise of my first marriage and the blessed wonderfulness of my second, I experienced a length of time I affectionately called my “sports sabbatical”.
It was a quiet, peaceful time of long stretches of HGTV, Hallmark movies and other non controversial, drama free — and most importantly–sports free television viewing.
I didn’t know the names of any of the sports players, watched the puppy bowl instead of the Super Bowl and actually made weekend plans without consulting “our team’s” schedule. When the time came at work to fill out sports brackets, I picked out my teams by “pretty uniform colors” or “states I liked to visit”. And really… I was ok with this.
And then along came Mr. Wonderful. And my world changed. Because this man? Well he loves his sports. College. Pro. You name it. And there never seems to be an offseason! So needless to say…most weekends will find me spending time with my favorite guy, crocheting away while some sporting event is on TV.
It was during one of these crocheting/football weekends that I had the most brilliant of ideas! The world of crochet just met football…in time for our next tailgating party! Because the perfect thing for the next Football Gathering just might be a bottle of wine in this cutie pie Football Wine Cozy.

Couldn’t resist. I made one for a female friend so my white yarn had a bit of sparkle to it.. She loved it and I had fun making it. Thank for the free instructions!
Hi! I was wondering if your wine cozy patterns would also work as water bottle holders. Thank you!
I haven’t tried the larger water bottles in the wine cozies. The smaller, more common water bottles are quite a bit smaller than a wine bottle so therefore the cozy would be too big.
