I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve kept many of my wine cozies for myself!  It makes me all kinds of happy to put a bottle of wine into the cozy for safe transport in my car to one my girlfriend’s homes.  And out comes a nice bottle of wine and it’s delicious cozy!

Some of my favorite times in life are spent laughing with good friends over a glass of wine.  This little bit of crochet goodness just makes me happy!

Let’s talk a bit about gingham vs plaid vs buffalo plaid. A Gingham pattern consists of white and one other color.. in this case, white and dark orange.  In fabric, where the 2 colors intersect, the colors blend, in this case, making the light orange.  So to recreate this effect, simply use a white yarn and then 2 shades of the same contrast color–in our case dark orange and light orange to create the pattern.

The lovely Gingham Crochet Wine Cozy is another example of a plaid pattern, but you can really pick any 2 colors in a dark and light shade and pair with white and you’ll end up with a lovely gingham wine cozy.

Plaid is less orderly and the criss crossing striping may have varying widths.  Buffalo plaid (also known as buffalo check) is similar to Gingham.  It has evenly shaped squares using 2 colors: Red and Black.  However when black and red combine, they form the third color burgundy.  So buffalo plaid substitutes the white in gingham with a black color and then the resulting “blend” is burgundy as with this buffalo plaid wine cozy pattern.

The crochet wine bag uses 2 strands of yarn held together at the same time.  I find it easiest to just roll yarn off the skein before I start into a separate ball.  Then you simply hold 2 strands of yarn, using it as though it was one. When changing colors, simply work over the unused color in the row, picking it back up when you need it next.

If your favorite stitch is double crochet, you will be right in your element making this fun wine tote!

The flower is made with only one strand of yarn and uses a smaller sized crochet hook. The flower and center are perfect for those scrap pieces of yarn you have laying around. I really just love how this fun flower accents the wine bottle neck on this beautiful tote.

When crocheting gingham or plaid, you might notice that the color changes slant ever so slightly in one direction.  This is a perfectly normal phenomenon that happens when you work in one direction round and round.  The work slights ever so slightly to the right if you’re right handed and to the left if you are left handed.  If you find your wine bag slants a bit when you put it on the glass bottle, a simple re-adjustment gets the lines nice and straight!
